The University Mission to Sucre, Bolivia began in 1995 through the efforts of Sister Dolores Zemont, OSF at the University of St. Francis. In 2001 it was expanded by the Peace and Social Justice Ministry to include students from all three of the diocese's Catholic universities, Lewis University, Benedictine University and University of St. Francis, as well as our diocesan seminarians. A few years later, in partnership with diocese's Office of Young Adult and Youth Ministry, the invitation was broadened even more to students at any of the colleges and universities in our diocese as well as college students who are from the diocese at large regardless of where they go to school.
While in Sucre, students work in an orphanage, day care centers, a hospital built by the diocese, two psychiatric hospitals, a soup kitchen, and a construction site as well as helping with dental clinics in the barrios.
This year’s trip will take place from June 3-19, 2014.  Students must participate in two meetings and a formation retreat prior to the trip.  Those dates and the applications are available on-line (www.cathstuff.org/bolivia-2014) through November 7, 2013.  All applicants will be interviewed by a contact person for their campus.  If you have any questions contact Kevin A. O'Donnell, Coordinator for the University Mission to Bolivia at kodonnell@dioceseofjoliet.org  (815) 483-4676.
