The year 2019 saw a cinematic revolution in the Telugu film industry. Many small-scale films did exceptionally well irrespective of the lack of superstars, catchy songs, and all the elements that make a solidly entertaining film.

With the audience being more receptible to new and experimental movie plots, the industries have seen filmmakers’ advent with creative freedom. However, due to the pandemic slowing things down, the vibrant film industry received a huge blow in production. The rise of streaming platforms and OTT Platforms has helped deliver high-quality Telugu movies and free new movies online, shifting the already existing trends in the film industry.

With the audience now preferring more real and content-rich but sophisticated plots, filmmakers have now been more creative with their content delivery. Here are two such films that have received widespread critical acclaim from viewers and critics.

  1. Forensic

Forensic is a 2020 Malayalam crime-mystery-thriller film that was later dubbed in Telugu. Written by AjfarRehman and Directed by debutants Akhil Paul and Anas Khan, Forensic stars Tovino Thomas, Mamta Mohandas, Reba Monica John, RenjiPanicker, DhaneshAnand, and SaijuKurup.

Forensic, with its strong thriller show, keeps you hooked and on the edge of your seat with twists that keep you guessing and some eye-catching moments that leave you surprised. Forensic is a brilliant film with a great storyline that checks all the boxes for a thrilling thriller. It has received high praise from critics. Debutant directors did an amazing job bringing a well-written script to life.

Sebastian, a Police Forensic personnel, is given the case of a serial killer murdering young children by ACP Rithika Xavier. The events that follow lead to the discovery of the true serial killer.

  1. Jallikattu

Jallikattu is a 2019 Malayalam indie-action film plotted around the Malayalam tradition ‘Jallikattu’- a sport where a bull’s breed is let loose amidst a crowd of people who have participated, all try to touch the bull’s hump. It received huge critical acclaim on its release and now international fame on its entry to the Oscars for India’s foreign film category.

It is written by S. Hareesh and R. Jayakumar and Directed by Lijo Jose Pellisery, and is based on ‘Maoist’ by Hareesh. Antony Varghese, Chemban Vinod Jose, SabumonAbdusamad, and SanthyBalachandran, the score was done by Prashant Pillai, while Girish Gangadharan headed the cinematography.

Jallikattu, on the surface, is a simple plot that shows a search of a rogue bull that escaped a local butchery in a small village in Kerala and is causing widespread destruction on its journey. Mad, devastated and angry, the villagers try their best to kill the buffalo but with no success.

What Jallikattu attempts to unravel over time is man’s cruel and greedy existence, and you’ll wonder how one animal can upset man’s poise, take out the animosities and fear that lurk inside every man, and return them to what they are – animals.

The plot may appear opaque, but what lies underneath it all is Pellisery’s cinematic genius, which will leave an indelible mark on Mollywood and have such a profound effect that Indian cinema will be praised for what it can achieve. If you want to view these masterpieces of cinematic excellence and the trends and new directions in the Telugu industry, you can watch web series online, movies and show, then do check out the content of AHA.
